The Town of Brattleboro Planning Services Department, in accordance with National Flood Insurance Program regulation 65.7(b)(1), hereby gives notice of the Town of Brattleboro's intent to revise the flood hazard information on Whetstone Brook, generally located between Meadowbrook Road and Western Avenue (VT Route 9). Specifically, the flood hazard information will be revised along Whetstone Brook from immediately downstream of Western Avenue to immediately downstream of Meadowbrook Road. The flood hazard revisions are being proposed through a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) Case No. 23-01-0632P as a follow-up to the construction of the Whetstone Brook at Melrose Terrance Floodplain Restoration Project. The project has been completed and the above referenced LOMR is requesting that revisions be made to the following flood hazards along Whetstone Brook: 1. The floodway will widen and narrow within the revised area. 2. The 1% annual chance (base flood) and 0.2% annual chance Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) will widen and narrow within the revision area along Whetstone Brook. 3. Base Flood Elevations (BFEs) will decrease when compared to current published BFEs along Whetstone Brook as a result of the Melrose Terrace floodplain restoration project. Note that changes to the floodway, 1% annual chance floodplain, and 0.2% annual chance floodplain are largely due to more accurate topographic data and modeling techniques used to analyze this section of Whetstone Brook. Maps detailing the revisions to the flood hazards information can be reviewed at the Brattleboro Municipal Offices at 230 Main Street, Brattleboro, VT, 05301. Interested persons may call Brian Bannon, Zoning Administrator, at 802-251-8111 or email at bbannon@brattleboro.gov for additional information. Maps showing the flood hazard revisions will be available for review at the Brattleboro Municipal Offices from April 15, 2024 until May 3, 2024. Ad# 83919 04/13/2024
